morning variations 2

I live in an amazing world.

I wake up this morning ... press a button and I'm listening to some of the most wonderful Indian classical music ... coming through the air ... picked up by this radio .... into my apartment ... filling it with sound and beauty.

I can go to this computer and share my excitement and wonder using a computer that can create worlds of thought, emotion, and pictures ... all from the movement of electric energy and a language of only two elements ... zero and one.

Truly incredible and magical.

morning variations

Cut up a beautiful peach, topped it off with some vanilla low-fat yogurt and then meant to top it off with a sprinkling of cinnamon when I mistakenly used cayenne pepper for the coup de grace.

Hmmm ... that's different.

Working in the dark can be so much fun :)

Just got back from the pool.

It's interesting walking in the rain to go swimming in the outdoor pool :)

Racism continues to rear its ugly head

Tonight I set out walking to Downtown Music Gallery to see my friend Dave Ross perform.

On the corner of East 6th & Ave. A an older black couple, in their 70s, caught my eye and attention.

The man's shirt was very colorful and they were impeccably dressed for a causal night on the town.

We exchanged smiles and a few words when the man said he was thinkin' of asking me to get them a cab.

Ten had passed them by.

I asked if it was because they were black and they said yes.

Even at their age? Yes.

I was a bit taken aback.

I hailed them the next cab, opened the door for their entry and exchanged good wishes and god speed.

We had a good time. Makin' fun and enjoying each other's company.

I felt sad to realize the hurtful truth of what had just occurred. The humiliating and frustrating daily reality that they had to deal with.

So You Think You Can Dance

Watching "So You Think You Can Dance" is great fun.

It's inspirational seeing these kids from such diverse backgrounds and experience grow and challenge themselves each week with dance routines and styles they've never done before and often have no familiarity with at all.

They really step up to the plate. Expanding their technique, connection, presence and expression through dance and personality.

They shine with joy and achievement.

The forms, shapes and emotions choreographed are stimulating and provocative.

A bright light of accomplishment and fulfillment.

Paths and gratitude

Today I really enjoyed pausing and taking time to enjoy the new flowers and buds growing along my stroll to and from the pool.

Recently I discovered that squirrels enjoy grapes now and then so I was approached by one and then another. I think these are young squirrels, born this spring ... smaller than a full adult.

They also seem more timid and new to their environment.

I complied with their requests and they scurried up the tree to enjoy the grapes on different branches.

Then a third squirrel came over. He was less afraid. He got closer. He lifted himself straight up into a sitting position and waited patiently.

I threw a grape to him and HE CAUGHT IT ! right in his paws.

As I said he was less timid than the other two and instead of running directly up the tree he stayed at the trunk and ate it.

So now there were three squirrels, all facing the same way, at three different altitudes, enjoying their newly acquired food.

I was listening to a Gavin Bryars CD called "After the Requiem".

They rhythm of their concentrated munching went really well with the music.

YEAH ! :)

a fine and glorious day

I set out around noon with the temperature at 34 degrees.

Bought a fruit salad and ate it in the park, lingering, now and then, to baste in the warm sun and digest the many images of light and shadow painting the landscape.

Then a wonderful walk to 23rd St. to the pool, through Stuyvesant Town, the fountain, hills with children snowboarding, along paths and roads bordered and covered with snow.

What a fine and glorious day.

A Statement to the World :)

I care about communication and understanding,

I care about engaging and understanding the world in all its myriad manifestations and disguises,

I care about how I'm treated and how I treat others,

I care about taking responsibility for .... and expressing authentically my feelings and thoughts.

If you see or feel something that is impeding these intentions, then please, by all means, let me know.

Otherwise, stick a sock in it.
